A delegation from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ethiopia who are in charge of the Institutional Collaboration Program Phase Five (ICP V) project visited Hawassa University for observation and discussion of project management and implementation, March 19-20, 2025.


Dr. Chirotaw Ayele, President of Hawassa University, warmly welcomed Ms. Siv J. Lillestøl and Ms. Fikirte Regassa at the Senate meeting Hall where he expressed deep gratitude for the people and government of Norway for their unwavering and continued support in staff and facility capacity building in HU over the years. 


V/President for Research & Collaboration, Dr. Tafesse Matewos, appreciated the strong connection between Norway and Hawassa University where he briefly presented the practical achievements of the university longstanding partnership with Norwegian government in five phases over 25 plus years. 


Dr. Andargachew Godebo, Project Coordinator at HU, also presented what the ICP V has been doing so far.

 

The delegation met with the university's top management for introductory discussion; met with the NORPIC committee for discussion; visited the poultry farm, apiculture and laboratories established by previous ICPs financed by the government of Norway at College of Agriculture, HU; visited fish, vegetable and poultry integrated farm site at Duba kebele of Sidama Region where 10 unemployed youth are supported by the project and spoke with beneficiaries about how the project has been supporting them.


Finally, the team held a fruitful discussion with the university top management and project lead at Haile Resort, Hawassa, on the way forward in the implementation of the collaborative project.
