The e-Learning Administration Directorate is established with a responsibility of overseeing, coordinating and managing all e-learning operations across Hawassa University campuses. By establishing the Directorate, Hawassa University (HU) acknowledges that embracing digital education is not optional, but essential for relevance and competitiveness. The integration of technology into teaching and learning offers immense potential to expand access to education, diversify delivery modes, and personalize learning experiences.

The core functions of e-Learning Directorate are:

  • Organizing and coordinating e-learning and digital literacy capacity-building trainings for instructors, students, and internal and external stakeholder communities;
  • Ensuring the provisions of necessary tools, platforms, and instructional resources to support instructors in the design and development of high-quality e-learning content, which includes multimedia studio and systems administration services;
  • Facilitating the development, dissemination, and regular updating of user manuals, tutorials, e-learning guidelines, and documented best practices for instructors and learners.
  • Monitoring, tracking, and evaluating e-learning activities and course delivery across the university to ensure quality and compliance with institutional standards;
  • Identifying, initiating, and pursuing project-based funding opportunities through collaboration with local and international partners and funding organizations;
  • Conducting institutional research, surveys, and needs assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of e-learning initiatives and recommending evidence-based improvements;
  • Supporting academic units in providing first-level and escalated user support for instructors and students on the effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS);
  • Promoting and advocating for the effective and consistent use of the LMS across the university community through awareness creation activities and engagement strategies;
  • Collaborating with the university’s ICT Directorate to ensure availability of required ICT infrastructure, technical services, and system integration between the LMS and other university platforms;
  • Overseeing regular backup, archiving, and recovery of e-learning course contents each semester, and coordinating troubleshooting of technical and operational issues;
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing the annual and strategic activities of the e-Learning Directorate;
  • Preparing annual budgets and submitting budget line requests for e-learning systems, services, capacity building, and operational activities;
  • Preparing and submitting periodic progress and performance reports on the implementation of e-learning initiatives to the university’s top management; and
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Academic Affairs Vice President.
