My name is Anteneh Yigzaw Beyene. I am one of the 2005 GC graduates of Hawassa University (HU) from the department of Foreign Language and Literature/ DFLL/.
It is a big pleasure for me to give my testimony about the contributions that HU has made in my life. Having said this, what I would like to say generally is ‘the whole academic discipline, the non-academic activities and engagements, the motherly take care of HU and the social and friendly interaction with students of different background had deep-rooted in my four years stay in the university and helped me to achieve the goals and objectives of my life’.
Thanks to the dedicated and disciplined lecturers of the department and the courses streamed in my academic life I became a professional journalist and served in the major print and broadcast media of the country such as Ethiopian Press Agency, Adis Zemen newspaper, Fana Broadcast Corporation, etc.
Besides, I would like to mention the literature club called” MEQREZ” of HU and the opportunity it created for students and paved the way for me to become a fulltime writer and poet and enabled me to produce different literary and poetic works that value the society. One of the books I wrote recently is the autobiography of Ethiopian entrepreneur in Amharic with the title “የማይሰበረው ኤርምያስ አመልጋ”.
I graduated from Hawassa University with a BSc in Applied Chemistry in 2005GC. Since then, I have been working in various government institutions across the country, before I was appointed as the Mayor of Hawassa City Administration in 2019.
During my stay at Hawassa University (2002-2005), I had gained a lot both in academic and non-academic realms. Hawassa University laid the foundation for my current status as a mayor of Hawassa City Administration and in my personal life.
I consider myself lucky not because I am the first graduate of Hawassa University, which has produced a large number of graduates serving their country in different professions, but because currently, I have got the opportunity to work closely with Hawassa University as Board Member of the university.
My name is Dr. Abeba Yeshitila Demesa. I am one of the 2006 GC graduates of Hawassa University (HU) from the department of Biology. Currently, I am serving at Assosa University as a lecturer and specialist medical doctor.
To me, words have no power and it is just like swimming in the ocean to speak about the contribution of Hawassa University in this short space of the alumni post. What I would like to say in short is that the overall academic and noon academic experience that I had gained during my four years of stay in the university laid the foundation for my current adulthood personality, status and overall achievements of my life. I am always grateful to HU and keep on cherishing those beautiful memories.
My name is Dr. Tombek Lino Maringgaba. I am one of the 2021 GC graduate of Hawassa University (HU) from the college of Medicine and Health sciences.
It is a big pleasure to me to give my testimony about Hawassa University as its former international student from South Sudan. Generally, Ethiopia has graduated many South Sudanese doctors trained in different fields of specialties and Hawassa University alone which is one of the best universities in the nation has different graduate residents in OBS/GYN and General Surgery and they have reached home and currently serving with great distinction.
During my stay in Hawassa University, I presented about the relation between South Sudan and Ethiopia. In addition, I shared about South Sudanese student’s life experience in Hawassa University, Ethiopia. I stated that Ethiopia is a second home for me and Hawassa University is well known to South Sudan students. I would like to emphasize that the Republic of South Sudan and her people will always be indebted to Ethiopian brothers and sisters.
Thanks to the dedicated and disciplined professors of the department and the courses streamed in my academic life and helped me to achieve the goals of my professional career.
As a final say, I would like to exert my appreciation to International Relations and Alumni Affairs Directorate of Hawassa University for establishing this in this short space of the alumni post to share my experience at Hawassa University.
