Academic vice president
The Academic Vice President has leadership responsibilities for planning, implementing, and coordinating the overall educational programs of the university. In assuming these responsibilities, the Vice President works closely with Academic Deans, Directors, Administrators, and members of the University. The Academic Vice President is accountable to the President of the university.
The Academic Vice president 8 Colleges, Institute of Technology, Daye Campus, and 8 Directorates/ centers/programs.
The Academic Programs Directorate (APD) has the following major duties and responsibilities.
- Manages the entire teaching-learning cycle, ensuring efficient use of time and resources, from student registration through to graduation.
- Oversees all activities related to teaching-learning, curriculum and staff development; and Follows up the execution of the officers’ duties and responsibilities and evaluate their performance and give feedback;
- Leads the design and implementation of educational quality plans, in collaboration with relevant units, to maintain and elevate academic standards.
- Supervises the execution of strategic and annual plans across the academic system, compiling performance reports of the colleges for the office of the Academic Vice President (AVP).
- Chairs regular forums with academic associate deans to resolve academic related issues, and chairs the directorate ensuring coordination among deans, directors, and internal staff.
- Assesses College/ Institute human power requirements, total volume of work, the current staff load and accordingly facilitate staff recruitment related payments including overload;
- Assesses and facilitates staffing needs (including recruitment and payments) and ensures the provision and maintenance of essential educational resources (labs, equipment, etc.).
- Researches and proposes academic policies and strategies for leadership endorsement, then oversees their implementation.
- Represents the directorate, prepares its annual plans and reports, evaluates staff performance, and advises the Academic Vice President on all academic matters.
- Performs any other relevant duties as assigned by the Academic Vice President.
