Overview

The Peace and Security Service Executive at Hawassa University is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all security, safety, and campus peace-building operations across the university’s campuses and facilities. Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement peace, safety, and security policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with national laws and university directives.
  • Lead campus-wide security operations including surveillance, patrols, access control, emergency response, and incident management.
  • Identify security risks, conduct regular assessments, and implement preventive and mitigation measures.
  • Supervise security officers and peacekeeping teams; provide training on safety protocols, conflict resolution, and incident reporting.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement, community representatives, and public institutions on security matters affecting the university.
  • Oversee investigations of security incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop campus emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, disaster response, and crisis communication.
  • Promote peaceful campus relations by supporting conflict resolution and mediation initiatives among students and staff.
  • Ensure protection of university property, infrastructure, and assets through effective monitoring and accountability systems.
  • Manage the security budget, resources, equipment, and technologies (e.g., CCTV, communication systems).
  • Prepare periodic reports on security performance, risks, incidents, and improvement actions.
