The Dean of Students at Hawassa University provides strategic and operational leadership for all student affairs functions, ensuring a safe, supportive, and development-focused environment that enhances student learning and well-being. The role oversees student services, discipline, welfare programs, extracurricular activities, and student engagement initiatives while upholding university policies and national regulations

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and direction for student affairs units, including student services, guidance and counseling, residence life, health and wellness services, disability support, gender and inclusion programs, and student activities.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs that support student welfare, personal development, and academic success.
• Oversee student conduct processes: manage disciplinary cases, ensure fair and transparent hearings, enforce university rules, and promote restorative and preventive approaches.
• Coordinate student housing and campus life services, ensuring safe, well-maintained, and inclusive living/learning environments.
• Lead student support initiatives such as counseling, mentorship, emergency support, financial aid screening (if applicable), and crisis response.
• Facilitate strong communication and engagement with student associations, clubs, societies, and student leaders; promote participatory governance and constructive dialogue.
• Collaborate with academic colleges, administration, security, registrar, health services, and other units to address student concerns and improve services.
• Plan and manage student-focused events and programs (orientation, leadership training, career development activities, cultural programs, and community service).
• Ensure effective data management, reporting, and monitoring of student welfare trends, disciplinary statistics, and campus climate issues.
• Lead risk management related to student safety, emergency planning, and incident response.
• Support compliance with government regulations related to student services, welfare, and campus safety.
• Manage budgets, staff performance, and resource allocation for student affairs units.
